5 Best Rated Essential Oil Diffusers

Seems like everyone is diffusing oils these days, but with so many options to choose from online and in stores how do you decide which one is best for you?

I’ve taken 5 of the best rated essential oil diffusers sold on Amazon and grouped them in this review post for you to make life a little easier when deciding which diffuser is best suited for your needs.

But before we get to the list, let’s take a look at some other points that should be considered if you’re thinking about purchasing a diffuser.

With so many diffuser options on the market, I’ve listed some essential features that should be taken into consideration before making your purchase.

This is probably one of the most important features to consider.  You will want to ensure that diffuser efficiently diffuses your oils through the air.

A good diffuser should be able to diffuse oils throughout a room the size of 200 – 700 ft in about 10 – 15 minutes.  In addition, a good diffuser should be able to produce a pure, clean and consistent aroma for a minimum of 5 hours.

Having a timer feature on your diffuser is also important.  Having the time intervals on your diffuser will ensure that your room doesn’t become overly fragrant with oils if you’re turning it on for several hours.

An oil diffuser can be used not only to disperse oils but can also be used as a nightlight. Depending on your preference you’re going to want to ensure that you are aware of the light settings on the diffuser.  There are several options from multicolored to soft white light.

This is pretty important if you’re looking to have the diffuser in your bedroom while resting.  Many diffusers will have a soft white noise which is normal, but ensuring to check review this will be essential before purchasing your diffuser.

You will want to ensure that the diffuser you purchase has the auto shut-off function when the water runs out.  This is important as it will ensure that the diffuser is not compromised if it runs dry and it’s a great safety feature allowing you to leave the area the diffuser is in unattended.

Cleaning your diffuser after each use is essential to prevent oil and water residue build-up on the inside of your unit which can have an impact on the effectiveness of it.  You simply just have to wipe out your diffuser with a micro cloth or cotton swab after each use, that’s it.

Once a week it’s recommended that you show your unit a little more TLC, which really isn’t a big deal, simply diffuse water and white vinegar or rubbing alcohol through it for 3-5 minutes.  That’s it!

Simply put a few milliliters of rubbing alcohol in the glass reservoir and allow your unit to run 5 -10 minutes to allow cleaning of the glass tubes

Dispense the remaining rubbing alcohol left in your reservoir and let the diffuser air dry.  Tada, you’re done!

Maintaining your diffuser is super important but as you can see, it really takes no work at all to ensure your unit continues to keep on giving you that lovin’ feeling.

NOTE: Always best to check with the manufacturer on how to clean your diffuser so not to impact your performance or void your warranty.

  1. Thanks for this. I have yet to buy my first diffuser, and was looking for some input on what would be the best for me. I live in a tiny home, and don’t want to be overwhelmed by the infuser.

You give some good options here, and they are presented well. Thanks for the information.

  2. Hi there! I would just like to say wow. I love diffusers. Essential oils are amazing. Your post is very informative and gives great insight as to what diffuser to buy. Nice content and a good layout. Very nice job! Now I wanna get a new one lol

    • Hi Austin

Thank you for your kind comment. Diffusers are a necessity in my home for sure. I love coming home from work putting on my diffuser and winding down. It’s a great stress reliever.

I highly recommend you get one!

      All the best,

    • Hi There

Thank you for your comment. Yes, there are several factors to consider when picking out the right diffuser. For me, the sound and lighting are very important. My next diffuser purchase will be the nebulizing diffuser. I love that it looks so elegant and there isn’t the worry of leaching plastic particles being diffused.

      All the best

  3. I actually have an oil diffuser that I use a lot at home. I really like my diffuser and the oils I have for I have two boxes of essential oils along with some oils bought alone. The one thing that I don’t like about it is the changing colors. I don’t want it to change colors when it is dark and my husband and I are trying to sleep, but we don’t turn it off for it helps us sleep with lavender oil and our baby as well. If there is one that does that. I will have to take into it.

    • Hi Brittany

Thank you for your comment. I would recommend you have a look at the Odoga Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser with Decorative Iron Cover (#5 in the post), it’s a soft white light that sets a really comforting atmosphere. I would say I agree with your husband, I’d rather have a solid light than one that changes color.

      Best wishes

  4. Great informative post on diffusers. This is information that I can use because my wife has a lot of them and I think your post will be very useful to her. Also, the details you gave are great and very useful.

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. I have fallen in love with oil diffusers that I now own two and maybe in the market of buying another. This post has given me more insight into the oils, which in the past I’ve had a hard time with. Thank you.

  6. Hi Tracy,

Thanks so much for sharing this much needed review. There’s so many out there it’s overwhelming when it comes to choosing one that’s suitable, so this is definitely helpful to choosing my next diffuser.

With regards to cleaning the diffuser, will diffusing rubbing alcohol make your room smell? I don’t have any white vinegar, it’s difficult to find here in London.

    • Hi Danielle

Thanks for your comment. If you are diffusing alcohol in your diffuser when cleaning it, it will leave an alcohol order for a very short period of time. It does evaporate quickly and doesn’t leave a lingering aroma like vinegar.

I’m glad you found the article helpful

      All the best

  7. This was a great place to read reviews! Since we’re all stuck inside, reviewing items from Amazon is fantastic since I can just click on a link and have it shipped to my house!

I didn’t even think about the quality of water I should be using. Thanks for the BIG tip! I also would’ve just picked the one that looked the best, but keeping all these other features in mind when deciding on the best one makes a lot of sense!

Which one do you have personally?

    • Hi Koda

Thank you for taking the time to read the review and comment. I currently have the Innogear Version (a less expensive one) and it has worked well for me. I will be moving toward purchasing the nebulizing diffuser very soon. I love the fact that that I can diffuse pure essential oils and absorb all the benefits without having to add water.
If you are using a diffuser that requires you to add water, yes I strongly recommend that you use distilled water as it will assist your diffuser in performing at it’s best.

      All the best
